Escape the city for a full day in the Wachau, one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Austria and a UNESCO World Heritage region. Travelling west from Vienna, you follow the Danube into a valley of terraced vineyards, apricot orchards and medieval villages.
The highlight on land is Melk Abbey, a magnificent baroque monastery that rises high above the river. With your guide you discover its grand abbey church, the imperial rooms and the famous library, and enjoy sweeping views over the Danube from the terrace.
You also step aboard a boat for a relaxing cruise through the heart of the Wachau. From the water you pass riverside towns, ruined castles and the picturesque village of Dürnstein with its landmark blue church tower, before returning to Vienna in the late afternoon.
