Wiener Hofburg Orchester - Neujahrskonzert in der Wiener Hofburg
The Vienna Hofburg Orchestra has celebrated the turn of the year with its New Year’s concerts since 1980. In the Hofburg Festival Hall, the series pairs the Strauss family’s waltzes and polkas with overtures and vocal selections from Viennese operetta. This is the Hofburg Orchestra’s concert, distinct from the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert at the Musikverein.
The Vienna Hofburg Orchestra performs with four vocal soloists, combining orchestral music with arias and vocal ensembles. The repertoire draws on the Viennese tradition of waltzes, polkas and operetta, including music by the Strauss family, Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán. The setting is the Hofburg Festival Hall, a monumental hall of almost 1,000 square metres with ceiling paintings bearing Emperor Franz Joseph’s motto, Viribus Unitis.
