The Vienna Residence Orchestra’s Vienna Classic Concerts introduce the city’s musical heritage through a chamber-orchestra program centred on Mozart and Johann Strauss. The repertoire also reaches beyond those two composers to Vivaldi, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and other composers connected with Vienna. Instrumental works and vocal selections offer a varied introduction rather than a performance of one complete symphony or opera.

Founded in 1990 by pianist and conductor Paul Moser and singer Sylvia Moser, the orchestra established its daily concert series in 1999. Today the series uses historic venues such as Palais Auersperg and the Old Stock Exchange Palace, with other halls appearing in the schedule. The selected date determines the venue: check your ticket’s hall and start time before travelling. The repertoire changes with the season and vocal soloist. The excerpt below is therefore a guide to the musical range, not a guaranteed running order; its Vivaldi selection is a seasonal movement, not the complete Four Seasons.

Program excerpt

The repertoire changes with the season and the vocal soloist. Program highlights:

  • Antonio Vivaldi: one seasonal movement from The Four Seasons
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik; Overture from Le nozze di Figaro; “Papageno – Papagena” from The Magic Flute
  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Romance in F major
  • Johann Strauss II: Wiener Blut; The Blue Danube
  • Franz Lehár: “Ballsirenen” from The Merry Widow
  • Joseph Haydn: Serenade, Op. 3 No. 5, Andante cantabile

Program and performers are subject to change.
