Ariadne auf Naxos at the Vienna State Opera

Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos plays brilliantly with the world of theatre itself: at a rich patron’s house, a serious opera and a comedy troupe are forced to perform simultaneously. High tragedy and commedia dell’arte collide as the abandoned Ariadne mourns on Naxos — until the god Bacchus arrives. The virtuoso role of Zerbinetta is one of opera’s great showpieces.

When should I arrive?

Please arrive about 30 minutes before the start time on your ticket so you can find your seat without hurry.

How long does it last?

About 165 minutes, unless stated otherwise in the description.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal dress code. Most guests wear smart casual clothing; evening wear is welcome but not required.

What if my plans change?
