Choose the performance, then the seat

An opera ticket in Vienna is for a particular production, date and theatre, not general admission to an opera house. Start with the available performances above, then compare the language, duration and seat category. A concert of opera arias and an opera-house tour are different products from a full staged opera.

Tickets Vienna is a ticket seller, not the Vienna State Opera itself. The list shows the performances currently offered here, not the complete repertoire of every theatre in Vienna.

Vienna State Opera, Volksoper or Theater an der Wien?

These are separate institutions at different addresses. Check the theatre named on the event page rather than treating Vienna opera as one location. Only performances available through Tickets Vienna appear in the listing.

Vienna State Opera
The Wiener Staatsoper on Opernring presents opera and ballet. Select the actual production and date; a ballet ticket is not an opera ticket even though the venue is the same.
Volksoper
Known for operetta as well as opera, musicals and ballet. Check the genre and performance language instead of assuming that every production is an opera.
Theater an der Wien
A separate opera venue with its own programme. Confirm the exact performance location and do not use State Opera arrival directions.

Seated tickets, standing room and restricted views

Stage visibility matters at the opera: sets, acting and text displays can be difficult to follow from a restricted-view position. Compare equivalent categories and read any visibility notes before choosing by price.

Standing-room tickets are a separate ticket type with their own availability and conditions. Do not assume that a seated category includes standing access, or that standing tickets can be booked here unless the selected event explicitly offers them.

Language, surtitles and running time

Opera may be sung in Italian, German, French or another language. Translation displays and their available languages depend on the theatre and production; check the event details if following the story in English is essential.

Read a short synopsis beforehand and check the total running time, including intervals where stated. A long opera and a short concert need different dinner and return-transport plans. For children, check the age guidance and finishing time rather than relying only on a reduced ticket price.

Before payment and on the evening

Review the date, local start time, theatre, ticket category, total price, confirmation requirements and delivery method before paying. Fixed-date ticket changes depend on the conditions of that booking, not a general promise of free cancellation.

Admission ticket or order confirmation?
Follow the final delivery instructions. An order acknowledgement may not be the document used for entry; keep the actual ticket or collection instructions.
Arrival and clothing
Allow time for the entrance, cloakroom and your seat, usually about 30 minutes. Smart attire is a practical choice. Follow event-specific dress and late-admission rules; late seating is not guaranteed.
Accessibility
Confirm step-free access, wheelchair places and companion arrangements before booking if required. A general seat category does not establish accessibility.

Your questions, answered

How much do Vienna opera tickets cost?

Prices vary by production, date, theatre and seat category. Choose a performance for the available prices and booking total. Standing-room and restricted-view tickets are different products, so compare like for like.

Does an opera ticket include a tour of the State Opera?

Not unless the event explicitly includes a tour. A performance ticket, an opera-house tour and an aria concert are separate experiences with different admission times and inclusions.

Do I need to speak German to attend opera in Vienna?

Not necessarily. Many operas are sung in other languages. Check the selected production for translation displays and available languages, and read the synopsis beforehand.

Can I buy standing-room tickets here?

Only when the selected event explicitly lists standing room as an available ticket type. Do not treat the lowest seated category as a standing ticket or assume that the venue's separate standing-room allocation is included.
