The three passes at a glance
Each pass answers a different need, and none of them replaces the other two. The Vienna PASS is the all-inclusive attractions pass: entry to some 90 attractions and museums, fast-track entry at selected sights and unlimited rides on the Vienna Sightseeing hop-on hop-off buses, for 1, 2, 3 or 6 consecutive calendar days. The FlexiPASS is the selective version: you choose 2, 3, 4 or 5 attractions and visit them within 60 days. The Vienna City Card is the public-transport card of the city, with unlimited rides on the underground, trams and buses and more than 200 discounts.
- Vienna PASSAll-inclusive entry to the included attractions, hop-on hop-off buses included, 1 to 6 consecutive days.
- FlexiPASSPick 2 to 5 attractions, one visit each, valid for 60 calendar days from the first use.
- Vienna City CardUnlimited public transport for 24, 48 or 72 hours plus discounts; a 7-day version with discounts only.
Vienna PASS or Vienna City Card: the real difference
The two are often compared, but they rarely compete. The Vienna PASS pays for your entries: palaces, museums, the zoo and the Giant Ferris Wheel are included, and you move between them on the sightseeing buses. The Vienna City Card pays for your transport: it does not include any entry, but it gives discounts at participating attractions and lets you use the underground, trams and buses without buying tickets. Visitors who plan many entries in a short time take the Vienna PASS; visitors who plan a few entries and a lot of moving around take the City Card; a long stay with a handful of chosen highlights is the FlexiPASS case.
The passes can also be combined: a Vienna PASS for the sightseeing days and a City Card for the public transport, which the Vienna PASS does not include.
Which pass pays off for your days
Count the entries you will really make, then compare the pass price shown on its event page with the single tickets of those sights. A pass rarely pays off for one museum a day; it pays off for two or three entries a day, for the sightseeing buses used repeatedly and for the fast-track lines in high season.
- One full dayA 1-day Vienna PASS used from the morning: the bus for the overview, two or three entries, the Ferris Wheel in the evening.
- Two or three daysThe 2- or 3-day Vienna PASS, if you keep to the included attractions; the bus connects Schönbrunn, the Belvedere and the centre.
- A longer stay, a few highlightsThe FlexiPASS: choose the attractions that matter and spread them over your stay.
- Mostly getting aroundThe Vienna City Card for 24, 48 or 72 hours, and single tickets for the few entries you want.
How the passes work on the day
All three are sold here with a start date; the Vienna PASS and the FlexiPASS are mobile passes. The Vienna PASS starts with its first use, at an attraction or on a hop-on hop-off bus, and counts calendar days from midnight to midnight, not rolling 24-hour periods, so a late start still uses up the first day. The FlexiPASS runs for 60 calendar days from its first use. Every included attraction can be visited once; some attractions ask for a time-slot reservation, and scanning the pass for such a reservation can already activate it. The information and pick-up point for all three passes is at Opernring 3-5, near the State Opera.

What no pass includes
Concerts, opera, dinner shows and day trips are not part of any pass; book them separately with a fixed date. The airport lies outside the city's core zone, so the train or bus to the airport needs its own ticket even with a City Card. Check the current list of participating attractions and their opening hours before you plan a day around a pass, and compare the days of your stay with the pass length: a 3-day pass on a 2-day visit wastes a day.

Frequently asked questions
Vienna PASS or Vienna City Card: which is better?
They do different things. The Vienna PASS includes the entries to some 90 attractions and the hop-on hop-off buses, but no public transport; the Vienna City Card includes unlimited public transport and discounts, but no entries. For two or three entries a day the Vienna PASS is the better buy; for a few entries and a lot of moving around, the City Card.
Is the Vienna PASS worth it?
It is worth it when you use it: two or three included entries a day, the sightseeing buses to get between them and the fast-track lines at the busy sights. Count your planned entries, compare the pass price on its event page with the single tickets, and choose the number of days you will actually spend sightseeing; the days are consecutive calendar days.
Does the Vienna PASS include public transport?
No. The Vienna PASS includes the Vienna Sightseeing hop-on hop-off buses, which can be used as often as you like, but not the underground, trams and public buses. For those take the Vienna City Card, which covers them for 24, 48 or 72 hours; the airport lies outside the city zone and needs its own ticket in every case.
Does the Vienna PASS include Schönbrunn and the Belvedere?
Yes. Schönbrunn Palace and gardens, the Belvedere, the Schönbrunn Zoo and the Giant Ferris Wheel are among the included attractions, each for one visit. Some sights ask for a time-slot reservation; check the attraction's rules, and note that fast-track entry applies at selected sights only.
Where do I pick up the pass, and when does it start?
The information and pick-up point for all three passes is at Opernring 3-5, near the State Opera, and the Vienna PASS and FlexiPASS are mobile passes. The Vienna PASS starts with its first use at an attraction or on a hop-on hop-off bus and counts calendar days; the FlexiPASS is valid for 60 calendar days from its first use; the Vienna City Card runs for 24, 48 or 72 hours from its first use.
